Game Overview

Resident Evil for the Game Boy Color was a prototype developed by Capcom, though it never saw an official release. It was an ambitious attempt to translate the survival horror experience to a handheld platform during an era when developers were still exploring the technical limits of portable hardware.

You control a character navigating through a series of interconnected rooms, solving puzzles and conserving scarce resources like ammunition and health items. The game uses screen by screen exploration, with fixed camera angles that heighten tension by limiting your view of approaching enemies. Combat is deliberate and unforgiving; every shot counts, and avoiding confrontation is often wiser than fighting. The pacing is slow and methodical, demanding careful observation and inventory management. Playing it feels like balancing on a knife's edge, where one wrong move can unravel your progress entirely.
