Game Overview

Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure came out for the Nintendo DS in 2009, developed by EA Tiburon. It was one of those games that really tried to make the most of the dual screens, back when developers were still figuring out what the hardware could do. It didn't get a huge amount of attention at the time, but it carved out a unique space for itself.

You control Henry, a gentleman adventurer, as he platform-jumps and sword-fights through a series of themed worlds. The main goal is to collect pieces of a special suit. The real hook is the two-screen setup: the top screen is a side-scrolling action stage, while the bottom is a color-matching puzzle grid. Enemies you defeat above drop down as blocks you must clear in the puzzle section; if you're too slow, they reassemble and climb back up to attack you. It forces you to constantly switch focus, which starts chaotic but becomes a satisfying rhythm once you get the hang of it. The whole experience feels like a clever, frantic juggling act.
