Game Overview

Heracles no Eikou III is one of those SNES RPGs that slipped under the radar, which is a shame because it’s got this weirdly cool mix of Greek myth and JRPG tropes. You start off as Heracles—yeah, that Heracles—but instead of just smashing everything, you’re unraveling some divine conspiracy with a rotating crew of heroes. The party-switching mechanic keeps things interesting; one minute you’re a demigod tossing boulders, the next you’re some mortal schmuck trying not to get vaporized by Zeus.

The pixel art pops with these warm Mediterranean colors, and the battles move faster than your average ’90s RPG slog. There’s a bit of puzzle-solving too—nothing too brutal, but enough to make you feel like you’re actually outsmarting the gods instead of just grinding levels. And that soundtrack? Absolute bangers, all flutes and lyres and battle themes that’ll get stuck in your head.

If you’ve played the first two games, this one tightens up the mechanics while going full Homer with the storytelling. It’s like someone took a Dragon Quest template and dunked it in olive oil and tragedy. Definitely worth dusting off the SNES for.
