Game Overview

Hook came out on the NES in 1992, developed by Sculptured Software. It was one of those many licensed games from the era, based on the Robin Williams movie, and it fit right in with the platformers and action adventures that filled store shelves at the time. You don't hear about it too often, but it had its own little place.

You play as Peter Banning, rediscovering his past as Peter Pan. The game has you moving through Neverland screen by screen, fighting pirates with a sword and later a bow. The main goal is to rescue your children from Captain Hook, which means exploring levels, finding keys, and battling bosses. Some sections even let you fly, which changes up the pacing. It can be a bit clunky and the difficulty spikes in places, but moving through the colorful, varied environments has a genuine sense of adventure. It feels like uncovering a forgotten storybook.
