Game Overview

Jack the Giantkiller came out in the arcades in 1982 from Cinematronics. It was a time when games were often built around a single, punishing idea, and this one fit right in. You don't get a story or a princess to save; you just get a sword and a lot of very large problems.

You control a small knight who must clear each screen of giants by striking them. The main objective is simply survival, moving from one packed screen to the next. Your primary tool is a short-range sword swing, but the real challenge comes from the giants' attacks; they throw boulders and trees that can knock you back, often into another enemy or off a ledge. The pacing is relentless, with little room for error, and the difficulty spikes quickly. It feels like a desperate, chaotic scramble where every victory is a narrow escape.
