Katekyo Hitman REBORN! DS - Fate Of Heat - Honoo No Sadame came out for the Nintendo DS in 2008, developed by Takara Tomy. It was part of that wave of mid-2000s anime adaptations on the handheld, games that tried to capture the spirit of their source material with a mix of action and story. This one drops you right into the world of Tsuna and his bizarre family of hitmen, with all the frantic energy you'd expect.
You control Tsuna, building his confidence and fighting strength to take on the mafia families gunning for him. The game mixes side-scrolling beat 'em up sections with exploration and light puzzle solving. A big part of the combat is nailing the timing for his Flame attacks; mistime it and you're left wide open. The boss fights are where it gets really demanding, forcing you to learn patterns and react quickly. It feels like a genuine test of your reflexes, especially when you finally land that perfect combo to turn the tide of a fight.
