King’s Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow is one of those classic point-and-click adventures where you’ll either love the slow-burn puzzles or get wrecked by them—no in-between. You play as Prince Alexander, who’s basically gone full lovestruck idiot and sailed to the edge of the world to find Princess Cassima. Of course, everything goes wrong immediately: shipwreck, dead monarchs, a kingdom on the verge of war, and Cassima might be locked up by some shady vizier. Typical adventure game stuff.

The islands you explore are packed with fairy-tale weirdness—talking owls, minotaurs, even Death himself hanging out in a cave. You’ll click around, combine random objects in ways that make no sense until they suddenly do, and probably die a lot (this series loves its instant-death traps). Late-game, there’s a cool branching path where your choices actually matter, which was rare for the time. The CD version’s got full voice acting, and the intro song is weirdly haunting—still sticks in my head decades later.

Just don’t expect modern hand-holding. Half the fun is bashing your head against puzzles until that "aha!" moment hits.
