Game Overview

LEGO: Alpha Team came out on the Game Boy Color in 2000, published by LEGO Media. It was part of that wave of handheld games where you got a solid, thoughtful experience built for short bursts, something you could play in the backseat on a long car ride. The graphics were simple but colorful, fitting right in with what the system could do.

You control a team of LEGO agents, each with a specific skill, and your main goal is to guide them safely through each mission. The core of the game is placing gadgets, like ramps and trampolines, on a grid before you set your agents in motion; you watch your plan play out, and if you placed something wrong, they’ll walk right into a trap. It’s a puzzle game at heart, with levels that require careful thinking about the order you use your agents and how you utilize the limited number of parts you’re given. The pacing is methodical, and some puzzles can be quite tricky, making it satisfying when you finally get a sequence just right. It feels like directing a little plastic ballet where one mistake means everything falls apart.
