Crank out bonkers tabloid headlines by smashing random story bits together—turn "Lost Dog" into "Canine Spy Ring Exposed" before the timer runs out. Pure DOS-era chaos with clunky green menus you’ll weirdly love.

Mad News came out in 1994 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, published by Virgin Interactive. It was a strange little title from that era when PC games were often experiments in interface and humor, built for systems that handled text and simple graphics without much fuss. You don't hear about it often, but it had a specific kind of charm that fit right in with the weirder side of mid-90s computing.
You play as a tabloid editor trying to meet a deadline, piecing together outrageous headlines from a jumble of provided words and phrases. The main objective is to combine story elements before a timer runs out, creating the most sensational (and often nonsensical) news stories possible. The core mechanics involve selecting fragments from columns and mashing them together, dealing with a deliberately clunky green-on-black menu system, and racing against a clock that never feels quite generous enough. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty comes from both the time pressure and the sheer absurdity of making the pieces fit in a way that's at least vaguely coherent. It feels like trying to assemble a broken radio while someone is shouting in your ear, and it's oddly satisfying when a headline actually clicks.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
