Play The Sporting News Power Baseball Online

Swing for the fences with exaggerated arcade physics—every hit sends the ball flying like a rocket, and fielders dive around like they're in a cartoon. No MLB teams, just pure over-the-top baseball chaos with that classic '90s SNES energy.

Game Overview

I picked up The Sporting News Power Baseball for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1995. It was developed by Hudson Soft, and it fit right in with the other sports titles of that era, offering a straightforward baseball experience without a lot of the frills you see in later games. It didn't have official MLB licenses, so you played with fictional teams, but that never really took away from the fun.

You control all the players on the field, pitching, batting, and running the bases with a simple interface. The main goal is to outscore your opponent inning by inning. One of its signature mechanics is the pitching system, where you select a type of pitch and aim its trajectory manually. Batting involves timing your swing to meet the ball, and fielding is mostly about positioning your players and pressing a button to catch or throw. The game moves at a decent pace, not too slow but not frantic either, and the difficulty feels fair, with a slight challenge as you move up against better teams. It feels satisfying to connect with a well-timed hit and watch your runner round the bases.
