Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time came out on the Nintendo DS in 2005, developed by AlphaDream. It was part of that early wave of DS games that really tried to use both screens in interesting ways, not just for a map or an inventory. The story picks up right after Superstar Saga, but this time the brothers are dealing with an invasion of alien-like creatures called the Shroobs, which sends them hopping between their own time and the past.

You control both the adult Mario and Luigi and their baby versions simultaneously, often splitting the pairs up to press switches or combine their abilities to progress. Your main goal is to chase the Shroobs through time to stop their invasion of the Mushroom Kingdom. The combat is turn-based but relies heavily on well-timed button presses to dodge and counter; managing four characters at once makes battles feel frantic and demanding. Exploration is screen by screen, with plenty of hidden blocks and environmental puzzles that require you to think in both timelines. The pacing is brisk, and some boss fights can be surprisingly tough if your timing is off. It feels like a clever, sometimes chaotic puzzle where every successful dodge or team jump brings a real sense of accomplishment.
