Game Overview

Mario and Sonic at the Beijing Olympics on DS is exactly what it sounds like—those two mascots and their crews going head-to-head in Olympic events, but with that classic Nintendo and Sega twist. You’ll be swiping the stylus like crazy in the 100m dash, timing button presses for swimming, and even doing some weirdly fun gymnastics minigames. The controls take a second to get used to (why does archery feel like solving a puzzle?), but once it clicks, it’s surprisingly addictive.

Graphics are bright and cartoony, with little details like Sonic tapping his foot impatiently before races or Luigi celebrating way too hard after winning bronze. The multiplayer’s where it really shines, though—nothing like watching your friend completely botch the hammer throw while you barely scrape by with a silver. It’s chaotic in the best way.

Definitely one of those games that’s better with friends, but even solo, it’s a solid time-waster between bus rides.
