I picked up Mega Man Anniversary Collection for the GameCube back in 2004, a compilation put together by Capcom that bundled the first eight mainline Mega Man games from the NES and SNES era. It was a solid package for its time, offering a straightforward way to revisit these titles on a more modern console without any flashy gimmicks or unnecessary additions.

You control Mega Man, a blue robot, running and jumping through side scrolling stages, shooting enemies with your arm cannon. The main goal is to defeat each of the eight Robot Masters, then take their unique weapon to use against the others in a strategic order. Signature mechanics include the ability to choose any stage from the start and the weapon stealing system, where defeating a boss grants you their power, which is often another boss's weakness. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is famously unforgiving, with precise platforming and instant death pitfalls. It feels like a constant test of reflexes and memory, demanding patience and practice with every attempt.
