Game Overview

I first played Metal Gear on MS-DOS back in the early '90s, when Konami brought it to the platform through MS-DOS Classic Games. It was a time when PC gaming was still finding its feet, and stealth games were practically unheard of. This version stood out for trying something different, even if it felt a bit rough compared to the NES release.

You control Solid Snake, a special forces operative sent to infiltrate a fortified enemy base. Your main goal is to rescue hostages and destroy the superweapon Metal Gear, but you start with nothing but your fists. The game plays screen by screen, with each area presenting new patrols and obstacles. You rely heavily on hiding in cardboard boxes or ducking behind walls to avoid detection; if a guard spots you, an exclamation mark appears over their head, and you either run or fight. Finding keycards to open doors and collecting weapons like remote missiles adds a layer of planning to each move. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense, because mistakes are costly and resources are scarce. It feels like a careful, sometimes frustrating puzzle where every step matters.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
