Midnight Club on GBA takes the PS2 street racing vibe and shrinks it down into this cool little top-down racer. You start as a taxi driver in New York (later London) trying to prove yourself in underground races—which honestly feels way more exciting than it sounds when you're weaving through traffic at night.
The races are split between chasing down "hook men" (follow them until their icon turns green, then hit checkpoints in any order) and direct 1v1 challenges. Winning unlocks their cars, and there's a surprising amount of variety—some handle like boats, others feel glued to the road. Found myself restarting races just to steal certain rides.
Password saves feel retro in a fun way, and Joyride mode lets you cruise both cities with traffic dialed up or down. It's not as deep as the console version, but nailing shortcuts between alleys or barely scraping past a bus still gives that proper Midnight Club rush. The arrow pointing to the next checkpoint? Lifesaver when you take a wrong turn.
