Punching dudes into spike pits feels even better now that combos actually flow together—just watch out for Shao Kahn’s cheap shots. Missing Scorpion hurts, but Kabal’s hook swords make up for it.

Game Overview

Mortal Kombat 3 on SNES is brutal, even by this series' standards. The first thing you'll notice is how much faster it feels compared to MK2—combos actually chain together now, and the new run button changes everything. No more awkwardly hopping around waiting for an opening.

Earthrealm’s basically wrecked, and Shao Kahn’s goons are everywhere. You get some wild new fighters like Kabal (dude with the hook swords) and Stryker (a cop, of all things), but no Scorpion at first—which still feels weird. The fatalities are as ridiculous as ever, though the SNES version tones down the blood a little. Still, uppercutting someone into a pit of spikes never gets old.

If you’re into classic fighters, this one’s worth a few rounds—just don’t expect the AI to play fair.
