Earthrealm’s a mess, so you pick your fighter and mash buttons until someone’s spine gets ripped out—just try not to fumble Kabal’s hook swords or Scorpion’s spear like I always do. The SNES groans under the weight of those pixelated fatalities, but landing a brutal combo still feels stupidly good.

Game Overview

Mortal Kombat 3 on SNES is where the series really leaned into the chaos. Earthrealm’s basically wrecked, and you’re picking from a roster that mixes classics like Sub-Zero with newcomers like Kabal—who, by the way, has these ridiculous hook swords that make him way more fun than he looks. The fatalities got even more over-the-top, and the combo system feels smoother than before, though good luck pulling off some of the trickier ones with the SNES controller.

It’s still janky in that early ‘90s fighting game way, but there’s something satisfying about the crunch of a well-timed uppercut or finally nailing Scorpion’s spear after whiffing it three times. Just don’t expect the graphics to hold up—this was pushing the SNES about as far as it could go.
