Game Overview

Mortal Kombat 3 on the Sega Genesis is where the series really started getting wild. The first thing you'll notice is how much faster it feels compared to the first two games—combos actually chain together smoothly now, and the new run button changes everything. Earthrealm's basically in ruins this time, which means you're fighting in wrecked cities and weird wastelands instead of the usual temples.

They added some great new fighters like Kabal (that dude with the hook swords and breathing mask) and Sektor, who just shoots missiles point-blank. The fatalities got even more ridiculous too—I still remember the first time I saw Sub-Zero rip someone's spine out with their skull attached. Classic.

It's not perfect—some of the new mechanics like the "dial-a-combo" system take getting used to, and the AI can be brutal on higher difficulties. But if you grew up mashing buttons on a Genesis controller, this one hits different. Still holds up as one of the best fighting games on the system.
