Muzzle Velocity is this weird little gem from 1997 that can't decide if it wants to be a serious wargame or an arcade tank shooter—and honestly, that's what makes it fun. You start by moving units on a 2D map like a proper strategy game, but then you can suddenly jump into first-person view and blast away with a tank’s main gun. The physics are ridiculous (a machine gun can level a building in seconds), but there’s something satisfying about plowing through fences and watching telephone poles snap like twigs.

The graphics are painfully bright, like someone cranked the saturation to max, but the details are oddly charming—swamps have actual bullrushes, and cities have little lamp posts that explode dramatically when hit. The British voice acting is unintentionally hilarious, especially when your panicked infantry yell "Get out! Get out!" like they’re late for tea. And yeah, crushing civilians under your tank gets an "oops" from the crew, which feels both dark and weirdly polite.

It’s janky as hell—the AI folds like paper if you take control of a unit yourself, and the 2D controls feel like wrestling with a spreadsheet. But there’s nothing else quite like switching from overhead commander to screaming down a dirt road in a Sherman, shells whizzing past. Just don’t expect the in-game graphics to match that slick intro movie.
