Play NFL Blitz 2001 Online

NFL Blitz 2001 turns football into a no-holds-barred brawl—late hits, flaming players, and touchdown spikes that feel more like personal insults. The Game Boy Color version somehow packs all that chaos into a tiny screen without losing an ounce of madness.

Game Overview

NFL Blitz 2001 came out for the Game Boy Color in 2000, published by Midway. It was part of a wave of arcade style sports games that tried to capture the feeling of the arcade cabinet at home, even on a handheld. The game strips away a lot of the rules to focus on the action.

You control a team of seven players per side, moving your chosen player with the D-pad and executing passes, laterals, and tackles with the face buttons. The main objective is to outscore your opponent by any means necessary. Signature mechanics include the ability to shove opponents well after the whistle has blown and pulling off turbo boosted jukes and dives. The game moves at a breakneck speed, and the difficulty comes from the aggressive, almost unfair AI that constantly goes for big plays and big hits. It feels like playing a cartoon version of football where the only rule is that there are no rules.
