Ninja Hattori Kun: Ninja ha Syugyou de Gozaru came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, developed by Hudson Soft. It was part of that wave of licensed games based on popular anime, and it fit right in with the platformers and action titles that filled the NES library at the time.
You control Hattori, a young ninja, moving screen by screen through side-scrolling stages. Your main goal is to rescue your friend Kenichi from a rival ninja clan. You throw shurikens at enemies like frogs and birds, and you need to jump carefully across platforms, often using wall jumps to reach higher areas. The game requires precise timing, especially when avoiding environmental hazards like spikes or bottomless pits. It feels quick and a little unforgiving, but pulling off a clean run through a tricky section is genuinely satisfying.
