Game Overview

Ninja on the Sega Master System is one of those old-school side-scrollers where you play as Ryu Hayabusa—yeah, the same dude from Ninja Gaiden, but this is his way earlier, way jankier adventure. You’re basically running, jumping, and throwing shurikens through these super pixelated levels, trying to figure out who killed your dad. The controls are stiff by today’s standards, and some of the enemy placements feel downright unfair, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about finally nailing a tricky jump after the tenth try. Also, the music slaps harder than it has any right to. If you’re into retro ninja action with a side of frustration, this one’s a time capsule worth dusting off.
