Game Overview

Right from the start, Ninja Gaiden hits you with that classic NES drama โ€” two ninjas clash in a shadowy duel, and one doesn't walk away. Turns out, that's Ryu Hayabusa's dad, and now you're jumping across continents to figure out why. The story actually matters here, with these grainy cutscenes (pretty fancy for 1988) pulling you into some wild supernatural conspiracy involving ancient relics and a villain named Jaquio.

Gameplay's straightforward but punishing โ€” you're running, slashing with your sword, and clinging to walls like a spider. The first time you get the fireball power-up, you'll spam it relentlessly until you realize ninja stars are better for certain enemies. Locations flip from neon-lit cities to creepy castles fast, and those sudden difficulty spikes will make you curse at your CRT TV. But nailing a tricky jump or finally beating a boss after 20 tries? Pure NES adrenaline.
