Obitus came out in 1991 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, developed by Psygnosis. It was a time when PC games were experimenting with mixing genres, and this one tried to blend first-person dungeon crawling with an overhead world map, all wrapped in that distinct, moody Psygnosis art style.
You control a lone warrior exploring a vast, hostile land from an overhead view, but the perspective shifts to first-person whenever you enter a castle or dungeon. Your main goal is to rescue a kidnapped prince by fighting monsters, solving simple puzzles, and gathering keys and items. Combat is a clunky, turn-based affair where you select attack directions with the keyboard; it feels slow and unforgiving. The game is notoriously difficult, with limited resources and enemies that can easily overwhelm you. Progress is measured screen by screen, and getting lost is a constant threat. Playing it feels like a tense, lonely grind where every corner could hide your next death.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
