Obitus came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed and published by Psygnosis. It was a time when the SNES library was full of experiments, and this game was definitely one of them, a first-person dungeon crawler that didn't play by the usual rules.
You control a nameless warrior, exploring a large fortress screen by screen, fighting monsters with a sword or a bow. Your main goal is to find four pieces of a medallion to escape. The game shifts perspectives abruptly, moving from first-person exploration to side-scrolling combat sections where timing your blocks and attacks is crucial. It moves slowly, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, with limited resources and enemies that hit hard. Playing it feels like piecing together a strange, lonely dream where every corner could hide an ambush.
