Game Overview

Pirates! on the Amiga is one of those games that just sticks with you. You start off choosing your pirate name (I always went with something ridiculous like "Captain Pickles") and then dive straight into the Caribbean, where you're free to do pretty much whatever you want. Sink ships, raid towns, duel rival captains—or just sail around hunting for buried treasure if you're feeling patient.

The graphics have that classic pixel charm, and the naval battles are surprisingly tense for something so simple. One minute you're casually trading spices, the next you're desperately trying to outmaneuver a Spanish galleon with half your crew down with scurvy. And don't even get me started on the sword fights—timing those parries takes practice, but nailing a perfect combo feels amazing.

It's the kind of game where you lose hours without realizing it, always telling yourself "just one more raid" before sunrise. The Amiga version holds up surprisingly well, even if the controls take a minute to get used to.
