Same Kanto, same gym battles, but suddenly your Squirtle might evolve into some weird water-steel monstrosity instead of a Blastoise. Half the fun is just seeing what bizarre new forms your team takes.

The game doesn’t mess with the core mechanics too much—still that satisfying GBA grind—but every route feels fresh when you don’t know what’s going to pop out of the tall grass. I spent way too long trying to get a Pikachu to evolve into its new dragon-looking form (spoiler: it involves holding a Dragon Fang at level 32, which makes zero sense and I love it).

If you’ve played FireRed to death but still crave that warm, pixelated nostalgia, this romhack gives you a reason to care about catching ‘em all again. Just don’t blame me when your Charmander turns into something that definitely isn’t a Charizard.
