You pick your starter (still agonizing over that choice), then wander through Kanto with crisper sprites and smoother battles—plus some new islands to explore once you’ve crushed the Elite Four. That rival’s still insufferable, but revenge tastes sweeter this time.
Pokémon FireRed is basically the classic Red version but with a fresh coat of paint—better sprites, smoother battles, and that sweet Game Boy Advance color palette. You start off in Pallet Town, picking between Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur (always a tough call), and then it’s the same nostalgic trip through Kanto, just less pixelated.
The Sevii Islands are new, though—extra areas to explore post-game, which is nice when you’ve already steamrolled the Elite Four with an overleveled Charizard. And yeah, the rival’s still a jerk, but that’s half the fun. The Vs. Seeker makes grinding way less painful, too. Honestly, it’s the best way to play Gen 1 if you can’t stomach the original’s clunkiness.
