Pokemon Saiph Version is one of those fan-made GBA roms that feels familiar but still has its own flavor. The early game throws you into a new region with some weirdly balanced wild encounters—I remember running into level 10 Geodudes right outside the starter town, which made grinding a bit of a headache.

The map design is decent, though some areas feel cramped or oddly laid out. There’s a stretch early on where you zigzag through tall grass for way too long before hitting the first gym. But once you get past that, the pacing smooths out, and the custom Pokémon sprites are actually pretty clean for a fan project.

It’s not perfect, but if you’re looking for a fresh take on the classic formula, Pokemon Saiph Version does enough to keep you going.
