Game Overview

Pokémon Snap on the N64 is basically a safari tour where your camera is the real weapon. You ride this little cart through jungles, beaches, and caves while Pokémon pop out of nowhere—sometimes a Pikachu napping in a flower patch, other times a Charizard swooping overhead. The trick is timing your shots just right before they scamper off.

Professor Oak grades your photos like some picky art critic, docking points for bad angles or blurry tails. At first I kept getting mediocre scores because I’d panic and mash the shutter button, but after a while you learn to wait for those perfect moments—like when a Squirtle does a little dance in the river. The graphics feel nostalgic now, but back then, seeing Pokémon in 3D was mind-blowing.

It’s way more relaxing than battling, though some stages get surprisingly tense when rare Pokémon show up for two seconds. You’ll definitely replay levels just to get that one shot of Mew floating in the ruins.
