Pokémon HeartGold takes you back to Johto, but with a fresh coat of paint—everything’s brighter, smoother, and just feels better than the original Gold version. You start off picking your first Pokémon (Cyndaquil forever, by the way) and before long, you’re running through tall grass, dodging wild Rattatas, and getting into battles that somehow still feel exciting even after all these years.

The best part? Your Pokémon follows you around outside its ball, which sounds small but makes the whole adventure way more personal. And if you’ve got a Pokéwalker, you can even take your buddy for a real-world stroll to earn extra XP—kinda gimmicky, but weirdly charming.

It’s still classic Pokémon at its core—gyms, Team Rocket, that ridiculous Sudowoodo blocking the road—but with enough tweaks to make it worth replaying. Just don’t blame me when you lose hours to the Safari Zone again.
