Game Overview

Prince of Persia on the Game Boy Color came out in 1999, developed by Tiertex and published by Ubisoft. It was part of a wave of action platformers on the system, trying to bring the series' tense, methodical style to a handheld. It didn't have the graphical flair of the SNES or Genesis, but it captured the core of what made the franchise work.

You control the Prince, navigating through a palace filled with traps, guards, and bottomless pits. The main goal is to rescue the Sultan's daughter from the evil Vizier Jaffar within a strict time limit. The game plays out screen by screen, requiring careful jumps and timed movements to avoid spikes and blades. Combat is simple but deliberate; you face guards in one-on-one sword fights where positioning and timing matter more than button mashing. The difficulty is unforgiving, with mistakes often sending you back to the beginning of a section. It feels tense and deliberate, where every action has weight and a single misstep can undo minutes of progress.
