Game Overview

Rainbow Islands on the Game Boy Color came out in 1999, developed by Taito. It was a time when handhelds were really hitting their stride, and this was a solid color adaptation of the arcade classic. It fit right in with the kind of bright, quick games people carried around then.

You control one of the Bubble Bobble brothers, now human, and your goal is to climb a series of islands by defeating enemies and reaching the top of each screen. You shoot rainbows from below; these can trap foes or form solid platforms to jump on. The main challenge is managing your limited rainbow shots while the screen constantly scrolls upward, forcing you to keep moving. It starts simple but gets intensely fast, demanding quick reflexes and smart platform placement. Playing it feels like a constant, cheerful scramble against the clock.
