Rainbow Islands: The Story of Bubble Bobble 2 came out for the Sega Master System in 1993, published by Tec Toy in Brazil. It was part of that late era for the console, when developers were still squeezing inventive platforming ideas out of the hardware. This one was a direct sequel to Bubble Bobble, continuing the adventures of the bubble-blowing dragons in a new, more vertical format.

You control one of the two young heroes, Bubby or Bobby, and your goal is to ascend a series of floating islands by creating rainbows. These rainbows act as both weapons and platforms; you can shoot them out to defeat enemies below or use them to climb upward before they disappear. Each screen is a self-contained challenge, and you need to collect crystals and avoid rising water that chases you from the bottom of the screen. The pacing is frantic, especially as the water level climbs and your rainbows vanish, forcing quick decisions. It feels like a race against time mixed with careful aiming and jumping.
