Rampart came out in 1990 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series, a port of the arcade game originally developed by Atari Games. It was a distinctive title for its time, blending strategy and action in a way that felt different from other games on the platform.

You control a lone defender of a castle, placing wall segments to create enclosed courtyards before enemy cannonships arrive to blast your defenses. The main objective is to survive wave after wave of naval assaults, rebuilding your fortifications between each attack. Key mechanics include the timed wall-placement phase and the manual aiming of your own cannons to sink incoming ships. The pacing is intensely cyclical, with quiet moments of frantic construction followed by chaotic barrages. Getting a direct hit on a moving ship just as it lines up a shot provides a sharp, tangible thrill. It feels like a constant race against the clock, where one mistake can lead to a quick defeat.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
