Rick Dangerous came out in 1989 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, developed by Core Design. It was a side-scrolling platformer that fit right in with the era's pixel-perfect, high-stakes adventures, demanding patience and precision from players who weren't afraid of frequent failure.

You control Rick, an explorer who navigates screen by screen through ancient ruins and enemy bases, avoiding traps like falling boulders and spike pits. Your main goal is simply to survive and reach the exit, which often requires careful timing and memorization. Key mechanics include using a limited supply of dynamite to clear obstacles or enemies (though it can easily harm you if misjudged) and a pogo stick attack for bouncing on foes in a pinch. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, because rushing leads to instant death; the difficulty is steep and unforgiving, making every safe screen feel like a hard-won victory. It feels like a tense, sometimes frustrating puzzle where every move must be calculated.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
