Play Rise of the Robots (Japan) (Beta) Online

You pick a robot fighter and mash buttons through clunky brawls—cool sprites, but the fights feel like wading through molasses. That final boss looks scary until you realize he moves just as awkwardly as you do.

Game Overview

Man, Rise of the Robots was supposed to be this huge deal back in the day—all the magazines hyped it up like it was going to change fighting games forever. The whole "AI learns your moves" thing sounded insane for an SNES game, but… yeah, it didn’t quite work out like that.

You play as this cyborg named ECO35-2 (cool name, I guess?) and punch your way through a bunch of robot enemies. The sprites are actually pretty detailed, and some of the animations are smooth, but the fights end up feeling stiff and weirdly slow. The Supervisor boss at the end looks menacing, at least, even if the fight itself isn’t as intense as you’d hope.

It’s one of those games that’s fun to mess around with for a bit, mostly just to see what the fuss was about back then. Just don’t expect the mind-blowing AI they promised.
