I picked up Rockman 8 on the Sega Saturn back in 1997, a Capcom release that felt like a proper send-off for the classic series on that hardware. It was a time when 2D platformers were starting to feel a bit dated next to the new 3D games, but this one held its ground with a polished, vibrant look that the Saturn handled well.

You control Mega Man, running and jumping through themed stages, shooting robot masters to acquire their special weapons. The main goal is to defeat Dr. Wily's latest batch of creations, screen by screen, using a mix of precision platforming and strategic weapon selection. Two mechanics stand out: the Rush Jet adapter lets you hover carefully over gaps, and the new Bolt system allows for temporary invincibility, which you'll need against some relentless enemy patterns. The pacing is brisk, though a few sections rely on trial and error, especially with some mean bottomless pits. It feels tight and responsive, like the best of the older games, but with just enough new polish to make the action smooth.
