Game Overview

Okay, so Sakura Taisen on the Saturn is this weird, wonderful mix of dating sim and tactical mech battles—but trust me, it works. You’re leading a squad of fighter-pilot actresses (yes, really) in 1920s Tokyo, juggling stage rehearsals and turn-based combat against demonic threats. The first disc sets up the whole steampunk-meets-kabuki vibe, and the character writing is surprisingly sharp—I went in expecting cheesy anime tropes and got actual personality clashes and slow-burn friendships instead.

The combat’s grid-based but not overly punishing, and the real-time dialogue choices actually matter. Pro tip: don’t ignore the theater management stuff early on. It seems like fluff until your team’s morale tanks mid-battle because you skipped too many rehearsals. Also, the soundtrack slaps—brassy Taisho-era jazz with battle themes that go way harder than they needed to.

Just know you’ll need Disc 2 to finish the story, but this first half nails the atmosphere.
