Play Secret of Evermore (Germany) Online

You and your weirdly expressive dog hop between surreal time periods, mixing potions and swinging upgraded clubs while the dog mutates into new forms. That SNES soundtrack still haunts me years later.

Game Overview

Secret of Evermore came out on the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed by SquareSoft. It was one of those later SNES titles that really stretched what the system could do visually, with some detailed environments and a moody, atmospheric feel. The game stands out for being one of the few action RPGs from Square made by their American team, giving it a different flavor compared to their Japanese releases.

You control a young boy and his shape-shifting dog, traveling through four distinct eras: prehistoric, ancient, Gothic, and a futuristic civilization. Your main goal is to find a way back home after being transported to the world of Evermore. Gameplay involves real-time combat with a variety of weapons, from crude clubs to energy blades, and an alchemy system where you combine ingredients to cast spells. You explore areas screen by screen, fight monsters, gather resources, and solve environmental puzzles. The pacing is deliberate, with some challenging enemy patterns and boss fights. It feels like a solitary, thoughtful adventure where every new area brings surprises.
