Game Overview

Shootin' Gallery is one of those classic Atari 2600 games that’s simple but weirdly satisfying. You’ve got this little gun at the bottom of the screen, and above you, all these bizarre targets—trains, frogs, kangaroos—just sliding back and forth. The further away they are, the more points they’re worth, but good luck hitting them before they zip out of sight.

Oh, and there’s this cuckoo clock at the top counting down. If you let it hit zero, a cuckoo pops out and steals some of your precious ammo. (Yeah, it’s rude.) But you can shoot the clock to reset it—just don’t get too trigger-happy, because bullets don’t grow on trees. Every 20,000 points, you get a little ammo boost, which feels like a lifesaver when you’re down to your last few shots.

It’s the kind of game where you start off thinking, "Oh, this is easy," and then suddenly you’re out of bullets, staring at your score, wondering how that kangaroo got away so fast.
