Sonic 1 Alt is basically the original Genesis game, but someone went in and shuffled all the furniture around. Green Hill Zone still looks like Green Hill Zone—just with a few new paths, hidden nooks, and maybe a spring where you swear there wasn’t one before.

It’s weirdly fun to play a game you’ve memorized and suddenly realize you don’t know what’s around the next corner. The physics feel a little tweaked too—Sonic slides differently off slopes, and some jumps take getting used to. Not bad, just… different, like putting on an old jacket and finding a dollar in the pocket.

If you’ve played the original to death, this is a great excuse to go back. If you haven’t? Honestly, start with the real version first—this one’s for people who already know where all the rings are supposed to be.
