You’ve got all those classic Sonic 2 zones you remember—Emerald Hill, Chemical Plant, the whole gang—but now Knuckles is here, and suddenly you’re climbing walls you used to just bounce off. The physics feel like Sonic 3, too, so rolling down slopes actually builds momentum instead of randomly stopping.

First time I played, I immediately tried the insta-shield (because, come on, it’s the best move) and it just works—like the game was always meant to have it. Super peel-out makes the early levels feel faster, and the tweaked level layouts keep things from getting too predictable. Even the special stages got a visual upgrade, so they’re less of a headache to look at.

If you’ve ever replayed Sonic 2 and thought, “Man, I wish this had just a little more Sonic 3 in it,” this romhack is basically your wish granted. It’s still unmistakably classic Sonic, just with fewer rough edges.
