Ever wondered what happens when Sonic and crew stop running and start throwing punches? Sonic Battle turns the usual platforming into a scrappy little arena fighter where everyone—yes, even Cream the Rabbit—gets to throw down. The moves feel surprisingly distinct: Tails hovers and zaps, Knuckles punches like a truck, and Shadow... well, he’s just here to look cool while kicking your butt.
At first, I thought it’d be mindless button-mashing, but there’s this weirdly deep RPG layer where you train Emerl, a robot that copies other fighters’ moves. Spent way too long tweaking his loadout just to watch him suplex Tails. Also, the pixel art? Still holds up—those little idle animations ooze personality.
Fair warning: multiplayer’s a blast, but good luck finding someone with a GBA and a link cable these days. Still, it’s the kind of weird, fast-paced brawler that makes you wish Sega made more spin-offs like this.
