You’ve got Sonic’s spin kicks, Knuckles’ brute strength, even Shadow’s edgy teleport combos, all packed into tiny, chaotic stages.
At first, I thought it’d just be button-mashing, but there’s actual strategy here. Each character feels different, and tweaking their move sets with upgrades adds this weirdly addictive layer of tinkering. The story’s classic Sonic goofiness too, following some ancient robot named Emerl who’s basically a fighting prodigy. Half the time I was just laughing at how serious Tails tries to sound in cutscenes.
It’s not perfect—some stages drag—but when you pull off a perfect combo as Rouge and send Cream flying off-screen? Pure serotonin. If you missed this back in the GBA days, it’s still one of the weirdest, most satisfying spin-offs Sonic ever got.
