Sonic Battle (Eurasia) (J) is a weird little fighting game on the GBA that shouldn't work as well as it does. The mix of 2D sprites on 3D stages feels janky at first, but after a few matches, you stop noticing.
What surprised me was how much depth there is. Each character has a ton of moves, and the way you customize your robot companion is oddly satisfying. I spent way too long tweaking its jump height and attack patterns, only to get wrecked in the next fight anyway.
The story mode is forgettable, but the real fun is in the battles. Linking up with friends was chaotic in the best way, though good luck finding three other people with GBAs these days. Sonic Battle (Eurasia) (J) is one of those games that makes you wonder why they never made a sequel.
