Play Sonic Mario 2 Online

You mash buttons to switch between Mario and Sonic mid-level, laughing as they glitch through platforms and spin-dash into Koopas with broken physics. It’s janky, but in that way where you can’t stop playing just to see what ridiculous thing happens next.

Game Overview

Sonic Mario 2 is that weird, bootleg NES game you'd find at a flea market as a kid—except someone actually put effort into it. You start off controlling Mario (or Sonic, if you press Select fast enough) in this glitchy but weirdly charming mashup of Mushroom Kingdom and Green Hill Zone vibes. The physics are... questionable, like Sonic somehow jumps like he's wearing lead boots, but after a few levels, you stop caring because you're too busy laughing at the absurdity of it all.

It’s got all the jank you’d expect from an unofficial ROM hack—enemies clip through walls, the music cuts out sometimes—but that’s part of the charm. There’s something oddly satisfying about spin-dashing through a row of Goombas or collecting rings that inexplicably turn into coins mid-air. If you go in expecting a polished game, you’ll be disappointed. But if you want a nostalgia trip with enough weirdness to make it memorable, this is it.
