You’re zipping through classic high-speed platforming levels, but between them, you’re sailing around this little overworld map, discovering islands and unlocking new gear. The touch controls for steering the boat feel surprisingly good, though I definitely crashed into a few waves before getting the hang of it.
The levels themselves are pure Sonic—loops, springs, enemies to bounce off—but with this weirdly satisfying mix of 2D and 3D elements. Boss fights are chaotic in the best way, especially when you’re racing against time or dodging giant laser beams. And yeah, Blaze the Cat is here, which is always a plus if you’re into the Rush series.
It’s one of those DS games that actually uses the second screen smartly, showing your speed boost meter or map details without feeling gimmicky. If you’ve ever wanted Sonic to feel like a pirate (sort of), this is your game.
