Game Overview

Man, Sonic the Hedgehog ZX nails that classic Genesis feel—like someone found an unreleased Sonic game from 1994 and polished it up just right. The first time you blast through those loops, it’s pure nostalgia, but then you hit a new zone with some wild gimmick (wait, why is there a pinball section with neon lights?) and realize this isn’t just a rehash. The physics feel spot-on—no weird slippy moments, just that perfect weight when you’re rolling downhill.

Whoever made this clearly obsessed over the details. The pixel art’s crispy, the music’s got that Yuzo Koshiro-esque synth punch, and there’s even little nods to deep-cut Sonic lore. My only gripe? Some of the new enemy patterns take a sec to figure out, but hey, that’s part of the fun. If you’ve ever wanted more of that classic Sonic rush without the jank of actual ’90s ROM hacks, this is the one.
