Play Sonic VR Online

Green Hill Zone wraps around you like a living diorama—spindashing off ramps actually makes your stomach drop, and Robotnik’s contraptions feel way bigger when they’re right in your face. Took me a few tries to stop flailing my arms like an idiot, but now I’m nailing those loops without puking.

Game Overview

Okay, so Sonic VR is basically what happens when someone takes your childhood Genesis memories and straps them to your face. You start in Green Hill Zone—except now you're inside it, with those loop-de-loops curving around you like some kind of rollercoaster you didn’t consent to. The first time I spindashed off a ramp, I actually flinched when the ground dropped away beneath me. Weird how your brain forgets it’s a game for half a second.

Chemical Plant’s neon tubes glow like they’re trying to give you a migraine in the best way possible, and Robotnik’s floating death traps? Way more intimidating when they’re looming over your actual head. The controls take a minute—turns out flailing your arms doesn’t make Sonic run faster (learned that the hard way)—but once it clicks, you’re weaving through palm trees and bouncing off springs like you’ve got rockets in your sneakers.

It’s still classic Sonic, just messier, louder, and occasionally dizzying. If you’ve ever wanted to know what being yeeted down a half-pipe feels like, congratulations: your childhood just got an upgrade.
